About Me

Hi - I’m Sterling Matthew Oliver! I exist mainly at the intersection of storytelling, technology, and the beautiful chaos that happens when live performance meets real people in real spaces. You’ll also see me in digital spaces quite a bit.

I work as a lighting designer, a sound designer, and an actor - which means I’m just as happy behind a console as I am onstage - and I firmly believe the best shows happen when everyone involved understands both sides of that equation.

I’m also the founder & programmer of kctheatre.info - a database website for actors in Kansas City to share and find auditions & networking events, and eventually, to help with tech job postings and more.

Outside of the theatre, I’m a gamer, musician, and lifelong tinkerer. I love learning new tools, breaking them (gently), and figuring out how they can serve storytelling better. I’m equally excited by a perfectly timed blackout and a well-landed joke.

If you’re looking for someone who understands both the art and the tech, communicates clearly and collaboratively, brings competence, care, and a sense of humor to the room (so long as you can take a tech week’s worth of “gesundheit” responses to somebody saying “Act Two”. I’m not kidding, it’s an instinctual response.) - then we’ll probably get along just fine.

Let’s make something cool?
